Yes, it’s been raining in Massachusetts (and in other locations in the eastern and midwest states). And yes, trails are pretty muddy in many spots.
One of the smaller puddles we encountered–others simply required bushwhacking around the trail to get by the water in the trail
Still, on an overcast afternoon, as we explored a neighborhood on the south side of Long Lake in Littleton, we came across a lovely network of trails called Long Lake Park that provide access to some wonderful views of Long Lake in Littleton. Continue reading

Pegan Hill in Natick, MA has been on my radar for some time, and as I work to wrap up the updates to More Easy Walks in Massachusetts, I had hoped to visit here to decide if it did, indeed, fit my criteria for offering visitors an Easy Walk. The finished portion of the SNETT/Blackstone Greenway has received a lot of press, but a section east of there, still in Blackstone, offers some pretty views of Harris Pond that makes this section of the trail a real pleasure to visit. The trail between Farm Street and Rt. 122, as well as east of Farm Street, headed over to Bellingham, is not only high and dry, it offers water views along the trail, sometimes on both sides of the raised trail. Grant Follow up: Sharing the Joy

When I started working with the non-profit organization Ten Mile River Watershed Council to help them create a new Easy Walks book with me, I searched for grants to help support our efforts. A lot of grant making entities are not interested in helping fund the creation of books. Yup, expressly so–not interested. Each organization has specific requirements. No problem. I finally turned to grants I was familiar with and reached out to the towns in MA included in the book we were working on. In the end, everything is local, as we know. Continue reading
