Thomas & Palmer Brook, Great Barrington, MA

Marjorie Turner Hollman supports nonfiction authors to self-publish their books. She is also a disability advocate, sharing information about Easy Walks (not too many roots or rocks, relatively level with firm footing, and something of interest along the way) in open space. Let’s get in touch.

We are in the beginning stages of another Easy Walks in … trail guide, which will encompass the Berkshires. We were in the area and took advantage of a beautiful fall day to enjoy a short loop trail in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The Meadow Loop of the 333 acre Thomas & Palmer Brook property  is a half mile round trip with a packed gravel surface. This is an Easy Walk, for sure!

Reminder: Easy Walks, in our trail guides, have not too many roots or rocks, are relatively level with firm footing, and provide something of interest along the way.

The brook is a tributary of the Housatonic River. From the parking lot with space for ten cars, you will first cross a wide bridge over the brook. From the bridge, the packed gravel trail takes you to the loop and additional trails.

We visited near the beginning of the autumn foliage season, so the hardwoods were not yet ablaze. Several spots on the loop provided promise of the fall color that people travel from around the world to enjoy.

The trail system abuts Rt. 23, so a steady stream of cars makes this a somewhat noisy outing. Additional, more challenging trails take visitors away from the road. The path offers views of nearby Monument Mountain, adding extra interest, and beautiful photo opportunities in any season.

Thomas & Palmer now provides a link within the Great Barrington Community Connector trail system. Whether you are looking for a short, accessible Easy Walk, or something more ambitious, the Thomas & Palmer Brook property is a great place to start out when you are in the Great Barrington area. Happy trails!

Marjorie
